The wooden platforms were sometimes carved into different animal shapes and decorated with ivory and silver. The ancient Indian Paduka, which translates to footprints of the Gods, was often sported by the upper echelon as a way to mark their status. Worn by Lebanese women between the 14th and 17th centuries, the straps were often made from velvet, leather, or silk while the wooden stilts were decorated with silver or pearl. Similar to the Okobo, wooden Kabkabs were named after the sound they made upon marble flooring. Dating back to 18th century Japan, the Okobo was worn by maikos, or geishas, during their apprenticeships. Another example of a platform shoe that functioned as protection from dirt and grime is the Okobo- "Okobo" referring to the sound that the wooden shoe makes when walking. There may also be a connection to the buskins of Ancient Rome, which frequently had very thick soles to give added height to the wearer. Of the same practical origins are Japanese geta. Ancient Ī maid wearing circle-type pattens: Piety in Pattens or Timbertoe on Tiptoe, England 1773Īfter their use in Ancient Greece for raising the height of important characters in the Greek theatre and their similar use by high-born prostitutes or courtesans in London in the sixteenth century, platform shoes, called pattens, are thought to have been worn in Europe in the eighteenth century to avoid the muck of urban streets. In the 1970s they were widespread in both genders in Europe. Depending on the current shoe fashion, platform shoes are more or less popular. The most famous predecessor of platform shoes are the Zoccoli in Venice of the 15th century, designed with the functional goal of avoiding wet feet when the pavements were flooded. Platform shoes are known in many cultures. Raising the ankle increases the risk of a sprained ankle. The sole of a platform shoe can have a continuous uniform thickness, have a wedge, a separate block or a stiletto heel. Extreme heights, of both the sole and heel, can be found in fetish footwear such as ballet boots, where the sole may be up to 20 cm (8 in) high and the heels up to 40 cm (16 in) or more. Platform shoes may also be high heels, in which case the heel is raised significantly higher than the ball of the foot. Our experts evaluated an xDrive40i for an extended period of time. Find out in detail where the X5 shines and where it comes up a little short by reading our test team's Expert Rating below. Some of its main competitors include the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7, Genesis GV80, Lexus RX, Acura MDX and Volvo XC90. Though the BMW X5 was one of the original luxury SUVs, it now competes in a crowded segment. A head-up display is now available as a stand-alone option on the xDrive45e and M50i models. Gesture Control, which allows the driver to use hand gestures to control certain vehicle features, has been dropped as an available feature but an optional wireless smartphone charging pad has been added. There are a few engines to pick from as well, from a fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid to a high-performance V8.īMW made a few updates to the X5's available features for 2023. You can even get it with a third-row seat, albeit a small one, to give you seven-passenger capacity in a pinch. It's comfortable and spacious, and it offers loads of in-car tech. Spend the money on air suspension and other comforts your wife will appreciate. The X5 does a lot of things well. I dont see 5900 worth of value for someone who is not an enthusiast in the new model. We have both an XLine and M Sport F15 currently 20 and the M Sport in that model feels a little more aggressive due to the suspension and the Sports auto transmission which wasn't standard when we got the X Line. Well if your wife is not an enthusiast I suggest the normal X Line. I don't think the m sport suspension does that, correct?Īny opinions on choosing between these two are welcome. In particular, which will be more comfortable, 2 axle air suspension or the adjustable m sport suspension? We currently have a range rover and being able to lower the ride height to get in and out is quite convenient. How would you configure a 40i as a luxury family hauler? It will be black, and for me at least the shadowline trim suits the non black colors a little better, black with shadowline to me looks a little too murdered out. Most here seem to prefer the M sport, but most here are enthusiasts like myself and my wife is not. This car is for my wife and will be used with a child (2 rows only), so I am not necessarily looking for a sporty configuration, more a comfortable family hauler. About to place an order and debating the pros and cost of the x line vs m sport trim lines for the 40i. Grading adjustments include exposure/temperature/tint, low/mid/high color wheels, and saturation.Īs you move the temperature and tint sliders left or right, the slider bar shows the color for the direction in which you are moving that control. Multiple panes in the panel expand to reveal the grain response and primary color controls. Log profiles change those sliders into film color and Cineon-to-print film emulation. New features in FilmConvert Nitrate include Cineon log emulation, curves, and more advanced grain controls. You don't have to download all of the packs at first and can add new camera packs at any time as your productions require it. When you select a specific camera from the pulldown menu instead of the FilmConvert default, you'll be prompted to download any camera pack that hasn't already been installed.įree camera profile packs are available from the FilmConvert website and currently cover most of the major brands, including ARRI, Sony, Blackmagic, Canon, Panasonic, and more. Whenever you apply a film stock style, a matching grain preset, which changes with each stock choice, is automatically added. Unlike other plug-ins that simply add a grain overlay, FilmConvert calculates and integrates grain based on the underlying color of the image. These include a variety of motion and still photo negative and positive stocks, ranging from Kodak and Fuji to Polaroid and Ilford.Įach stock preset includes built-in film grain based on 6K film scans. The total of the three passes will be one of just four values: 6 (2+2+2), 7 (2+2+3), 8 (2+3+3), or 9 (3+3+3)-that value is the number of the first line. 9 or 8 is assigned a value of 2 5 or 4, a value of 3. The total count of the stalks in the remainder pile will be 9 or 5 on the first count and 8 or 4 on the subsequent. These are generally kept between the fingers of the left hand during the counting. When less than four remain they are added to the remainders. Begin counting off sets of four stalks and setting aside. Remainder one stalk from the right hand group. The remaining stalks are separated into two groups one in each hand. One is set aside at the top of the reading space.
